Janet Pillai is currently an Adjunct Associate Professor at The University of Hong Kong’s Division of Architectural Programmes, and she was previously an Associate Professor at University Sains Malaysia’s Department of Performing Arts. She is currently a project-based consultant specialising in arts education and community engagement through the arts. She is also a veteran theatre director who works in collaboration with performing artists and young people, and has produced over 25 major creative works. She has researched and published widely on community-based arts in the region as well as organised community-based arts programs on the ground. She founded Arts-ED (2007), a non-profit organisation which provides non-formal arts, heritage and culture education for young people, and co-founded an informal network platform for Community Engaged Artists in Asian region in 2016. She also acts as an educational resource person for regional bodies such as UNESCO Bangkok and APCIEU Korea.
