Interested applicants can join the Department’s Admissions Talk to be held on 26 November 2022 (Saturday) at 10:00 am (HKT) in Room 730, 7/F., Knowles Building, The University of Hong Kong and via online Zoom at the same time. For registration to attend the admission talk, please register: on or before 12:00 noon, 25 November 2022 (Friday).

To be eligible for admission, candidates

(a)    shall comply with the General Regulations and the Regulations for Taught Postgraduate Curricula; and

(b)    shall hold

  • a Bachelor’s degree in the urban or related fields of this University; or
  • a qualification of equivalent standard of this University or another university or comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
  • preferably a professional qualification in the urban or related fields; and
  • satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Applicants with qualifications from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching or examination is not English are required (unless exceptionally exempted) to obtain:

  • a score of 550 or above (paper-based test) or 80 or above (internet-based test) in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
  • a minimum overall band of 6.0 with no subtest lower than 5.5 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
  • grade C or above in either the Overseas General Certificate of Education, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or the Cambridge Test of Proficiency in English Language.

Programme Fee:

The programme fee for 2023-2024 is HK$202,880 (subject to University’s approval), will be paid in 2 installments (HK$101,440) on semester basis according to the University schedule.

Required Documents:

Transcripts, diplomas, certificates, English language official score reports and other submitted documents which are NOT in English should be accompanied by a certified translation in English. Certified translation may be provided by your home institution.

  • Complete official transcript of undergraduate studies (original/certified true copy*)
  • Graduate certificate of undergraduate studies (certified true copy*)
  • Reference reports (from two referees)
  • TOEFL / IELTS transcript (if appropriate)

* Please note that the University will only ACCEPT originals or copies of the documents that have been duly declared as true copies before a notary public.  Copies of documents may be certified by the appropriate officials of your home institute if you are an overseas applicant.  No photocopies will be accepted.


 Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview. Shortlisted applicants will be informed by email in due course.
