This summer programme explores and understands the making of the city of Paris through walking, observing, collecting, recording and drawing. We shall comprehend the city’s relationship to its geography, landscape and infrastructures and how its architecture and landscape are a “synthesis” of all these singularities. We shall understand how the politics and the governance of the city has ruled the city’s development and its environs since the 12th century. You will be guided through centuries of urban and architectural sedimentation, the landscapes and geographies that are displaced and created will be at the core of our discussions. Each participant is required to carefully record every possible observation through photographs, drawings, postcards, objects, or extracts from book, newspapers or writings on the city.
We will also take two days to visit the city of Lyon: two exemplary works by Bernard Zehrfuss and Le Corbusier as well as a very unique urban/geographic condition at the confluence of two rivers and the unique urban corridor type:the traboules of Lyon.
