Course Title: Landscape Planning and Design I
Teacher: Matthew Pryor, Suvarna Apte Dalvie, Adam Bobbette
Three sites in Hong Kong will guide the research and design investigations of ARCH 7101: a container terminal, a forest path and a wet market. Each site contains vastly different urban ecologies and markedly unique opportunities for intervention. A key challenge of the studio will be to think both the diversity and interconnections between the three sites as they characterize the unique urban conditions of Hong Kong. Special emphasis of ARCH 7101 will be placed on the precise, exquisite, and rigorous articulation of ideas through representation and built artifacts. The course will take students through the fundamental steps of the design process and introduce them to key themes and methods in contemporary landscape architecture. Broadly, the course will be broken into three sections: site investigation: representation and modeling; site measures: communicating process; site transformed.
