POSITION STATEMENT
This thesis sees the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market in Hong Kong as a test case where space is underutilized. Despite being busy and active at night, it is quiet during the day. The thesis proposes the insertion of programmatic walls that enable learning spaces to inhabit both above and within the building. Through an in depth analysis on how spaces are used within a 24-hr cycle, strategic locations of intervention are identified. For example large loading and unloading spaces can be used as an lecture or performance space, whilst cold storages can hold classrooms above.
