ARCH2072 – 2017 Fall: “(CAR)PARK REGENERATION”
Star Ferry Car Park is a simple, mid-sized urban infrastructure located on the Central waterfront it has rich history and relation to its surroundings. As a piece of architecture, it is characterized by its “openness” and “resilience.”
First, we will make a rigorous observation of the car park through a set of measured architectural drawings. This will become a shared base material for us to discuss and learn how to observe and describe architecture graphically. We will then further identify and scrutinize different architectural aspects of the initial findings under the framework of Ecologies-Sustainability-Regeneration. Gradually, students will need to discover and transcribe myriads of ecological relations that exists within this system of architecture.
This will inform the precise nature of their final design proposal, which is a regenerative use of the structure as another kind of “park” space.
The studio is articulated between investigations, experimentations, iterations, discussions, thoses images represent fragments of this continuous discovery.
