Alumni Sharing Session - Working in Canada as a Development Planner

Our 40th Anniversary Event Series is launched in celebration of the establishment of the Centre of Urban Studies and Urban Planning (CUSUP) in 1980 and its subsequent development to become the Department of Urban Planning and Design (DUPAD) at the University of Hong Kong.

An Alumni Sharing Session will be held virtually via Zoom on 10 June, 2021 (Thursday), 12:00-13:00 (GMT+8).

Abstract:
The Master of Science in Urban Planning programme provides comprehensive training in urban planning and development of world cities. In this webinar, three young graduates from the programme (Edison, Jerome, and Kenneth) will be sharing their professional planning and development experiences in two Canadian cities (Vancouver and Edmonton). They will discuss the opportunities, challenges, and career paths for new graduates in the pursuit of a planning career outside Hong Kong.

About the Speakers:

Mr. TING Yick Nam, Edison (Development Planner, City of Coquitlam, Canada)

Mr. Edison Ting is a Development Planner at the City of Coquitlam, where he influences land-use decisions and acts as a facilitator and mediator to identify challenges in projects and effectively work with specialists to find solutions that balance the divergent interests within the community. Edison attained his Masters in Urban Planning at HKU in 2017 and previously worked at public agencies in Canada such as TransLink, the Ministry of Transportation and the City of North Vancouver.

Mr. YEUNG Kin Ho, Kenneth (Development Planner, Edmonton, Canada)

Mr. Kenneth Yeung is a Principal Planner with the City of Edmonton. In 2014, he graduated with distinction from the Urban Planning program at The University of Hong Kong. Over his 7 years of work experience in both public and private sector planning, he has specialized in infill and large-scale multi-unit housing developments. He is an advocate for affordable and quality housing in mature and established neighborhoods.

Mr. TEO Jerome Jia-Jie (Real Estate Development Manager, Vancouver, Canada)

Graduating with Distinction from HKU’s Masters of Urban Planning in 2017, Mr. Jerome Teo now works at Everglade Development Ltd, a private-sector real estate development firm, as a Development Manager. In his post, Jerome works with a diverse group of professional consultants and various stakeholders to bring residential and mixed-use projects to life. He also contributes to the public sector as a member of the City of Richmond’s Public Art Advisory Committee which advises and deliberates on upcoming works of public art throughout the city.
