Abstract
The Chinese government has released a series of building energy efficiency (BEE) policies to achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction targets in the building sector. Facing the substantial energy consumption in urban residential areas, continuously improving the urban residential BEE will be a medium to long-term target in China. However, the future energy efficiency improvement pathway for urban residential building stock at the city level in China is unclear. Therefore, this study will explore the possible BEE improvement policy measures in urban residential areas and evaluate the impact of different policies on the building stock, energy demand and carbon emissions at the city level in China by establishing a comprehensive dynamic modeling framework. Besides, a top-down building stock turnover model will be developed to investigate the evolutionary trajectories of building sub-stocks with different energy efficiency under BEE policies. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable information for the design of relevant policies.
