Since its creation, the practice has received several awards and was invited to participate in Architecture Biennials in Venice, Moscow, and Beijing. OFIS works and communicates at an international level, taking part in competitions, lectures, and discourses. The team is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Paris, France and Moscow, Russia. They have taught at the Harvard GSD since 2012, and also at faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana and Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Val de Seine. In 2019 they are teaching at Architectural Association in London and Hong Kong University.

Lecture Abstract

The lecture will navigate through education, research and professional practice and touch several projects and topics that OFIS developed in the past years. Since its creation, the practice has been investigating in space relations in different scales and context. Their build work is represented by various programs from public, sport, cultural and religious buildings to single and multiple housing.  They work on refurbishment of historical buildings and on new build forms. Most of their professional work is result of winning competitions, both national and international, including student residence on Route des Petits Ponts in Paris and  Football Stadium Bate Arena in Belarus that will be presented in the lecture.

Their academic research combines different interests and curiosities. They investigate European and local Slovenian identity in contemporary architectural language, which includes traditional knowledge of vernacular buildings into revitalisations, conversions and new build in Alpine Area.

Their teaching and research focus on habitations in extreme environments. They have built several shelters in Alpine area, glasshouse in the dessert and adaptable living unit. Through this work they research behaviour of object in extreme environment that might help developing new habitations facing the climatic change.

ZOOMIN: Visiting Professor Talks @ HKU Architecture

ZOOMIN, an online lecture series organized by the Department of Architecture, HKU, explores a new way of idea exchanges amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the spring of 2020, five distinguished international architects are invited as Visiting Professors to teach at HKU. Since mid-January, they all have been managing to overcome tremendous challenges to teach and communicate with HKU students via internet, from their own home-bases in London, Ljubljana, New York and Asunción. Now this program invites each of them to give a public lecture, via Zoom.

Speakers will share with the HKU community and the general public their architectural thinking and works. After each talk, a HKU professor will open a dialogue with the speaker, to discuss how the current pandemic is impacting our working, living and thinking, and how architecture can confront the dire social and environmental crisis alike.
