Abstract
The recent burgeoning studies are indicative of a growing conviction that space-of-flow is changing the spatial structure of places, including the urban system, intra-urban polycentricity, and local commercial centers. However, potential structural effects of space-of-flow are not fully examined. In this talk, I first propose a theoretical framework that interprets conventional spatial structure of places as the result of three mechanisms. Then, based on deductions and common evidence, potential structural effects of space-of-flow are explained through its interaction with the mechanisms at regional, intra-urban, and local scales. Finally, suggestions for future research on space-of-flow are provided. I hope these thoughts are helpful to research topics such as city networks, urban polycentricity, and the impact of ICT, etc.
