Abstract:
This lecture attempts to highlight the promising potential of online housing advertisements for urban planning. More specifically, two cases will be introduced: (1) taking advantage of the big data of online housing advertisements to unravel how landscape amenities are capitalized into rental prices across five Chinese megacities; and (2) a machine learning approach to neighborhood socioeconomic status inference based on semantic and sentimental analysis of online housing advertisements.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Shiliang Su is a full professor of Cartography and GIScience in School of Resource and Environmental Sciences, Wuhan University. His research interests focus on land use modeling, geocomputational social sciences, and thematic map design. His research work has facilitated urban planning and land use planning over 23 cities in mainland China. He was entitled ‘Chinese Most Cited Researchers’ by Elsevier in 2019.
