M+ and the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong are organising a series of events on 12–13 February 2020 to mark the arrival of the Archigram Archive in Hong Kong and to reappraise
Archigram’s multidisciplinary practice and global relevance. One of these events, an exhibition of architectural drawings organised by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong will take place in parallel with the symposium. The symposium will take place on February 13th 2020.
Archigram’s vivid drawings and collages became representative of a generation dissatisfied with the prescriptive solutions of mainstream modernism. Like pop artists, they imbued their architecture with the technology and consumer culture that surrounded them, and did so unapologetically. They understood that Architecture happened as much by visualizing as it did by building.
We invite students, practitioners, and educators in the field of architecture and beyond to join the symposium and submit contemporary and original drawings suggestive of or influenced by the types of strategies, attitudes and issues present in Archigram’s work. Selected drawings will be exhibited in February 2020 as part of the symposium. For submission details and a timeline, please refer to the complete Call for Drawings here.
