Title:

Speaker(s):
Ms. Ka Yan Yvonne LAI
PhD Student
Department of Urban Planning and Design
The University of Hong Kong

Abstract

With increasing urbanization, light pollution has emerged as an ubiquitous problem worldwide. Among the high density cities, Hong Kong has been prone to severe light pollution. Nonetheless, the relationships between light pollution and human health have thus far remained an understudied area. This study aims to (1) conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of the associations between light at night and health outcomes, (2) develop a light at night exposure database for Hong Kong as a case with an objective of examining potential human health effects, and (3) conduct a global night light policy review. This study is believed to generate scientific evidence on the extent of light pollution, associated health impacts as well as guide future policy interventions for a healthier city.
