Lecture Abstract

The lecture will navigate through Education, Research and Profesionall practice and touch several projects and topics Ofis developed in the past years. Since its creation, the practice has been investigating space relations in different scales and context. Their build work is represented by various programs from public, sport, cultural and religious buildings to single and multiple housing. They work on refurbishment of historical buildings and on new build forms. Most of their professional work is result of winning competitions, both national and international, including student residence on Route des Petits Ponts in Paris and Football Stadium Bate Arena in Belarus that will be presented on the lecture. Their academic research combines different interests and curiosities. They investigate European and local Slovenian identity in contemporary architectural language, which includes traditional knowledge of vernacular buildings into revitalisations, conversions and new build in Alpine Area. Their teaching and research is focusing on Habitations in Extreme environments. They have build several shelters in Alpine area, glasshouse in the dessert and adaptable living unit. Through this work they research behaviour of object in Extreme environment that might help developing new habitations facing the climatic change.


Špela Videcnik and Rok Oman, both graduates of the University of Ljubljana School of Architecture and the Architectural Association School of Architecture (AA) in London, established OFIS arhitekti in 1996. Since its creation, the practice has received several awards and was invited to participate in Architecture Biennials in Venice, Moscow, and Beijing. OFIS works and communicates at an international level, taking part in competitions, lectures, and discourses. The team is based in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Paris, France and Moscow, Russia. They have taught at the Harvard GSD since 2012, and also at faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana and Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture Paris-Val de Seine.
