Biography

After graduating from Sciences-Po Paris and then from the French National Film School (FEMIS), Frédéric Biamonti started doing documentary work for the French Public Television in 1995. He has since directed over 20 films, among which a series of films on Parisian urban projects (L’île Seguin, les Halles, la Défense, the Greater Paris project). His centre of interest includes political history as well as art history and architecture. The USA is a special subject in his filmography, with films that document highly specialized cities, entirely devoted to one specific function : Huntsville Texas and the penitentiary industry; Sun City Arizona the first retirement town; Las Vegas Nevada seen from behind the Strip as a world capital of the real estate crisis. Another film is devoted to the political uses of the Chateau de Versailles through the ages; his most recent production, for the Franco-German cultural channel ARTE, is an investigation on a recently discovered Caravaggio picture.
