Françoise Fromonot is an architect and critic based in Paris. She has taught and lectured worldwide on contemporary architecture and urban design, and is currently Professor (design, history and theory) at the ENSA (national architecture school) Paris-Belleville. A contributing editor to l’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui (Paris), joint editor of le visiteur (Paris), columnist for A+ (Brussels), she has also contributed to most international architecture journals since 1986 (Casabella,Archis, Bauwelt, Archithese, Volume, Log, etc). She was also a founding member of and contributing editor to the Paris-based architecture journal criticat (www.criticat.fr); a selection of articles from the first ten issues, Yours critically, appeared in English in 2016.
She is the author of numerous monographs and essays, including Glenn Murcutt-Buildings and Projects (Electa, 1995 and 2003), Jørn Utzon and the Sydney Opera House (Electa, 1998) – both recipients of the “Architecture book of the year” award from the French Architecture Academy, Paris – and La Campagne des Halles (La Fabrique, 2005), a critical account of the latest urban competition for the renovation of central Paris. The second volume of this urban saga appeared in 2019 (La Comédie des Halles). She recently edited a monograph on the large-scale projects of French landscape architect Michel Desvigne (Transforming Landscapes, Birkhäuser, 2020).
