Empowerment is always the core element in Light Be’s housing projects. These projects not only empower tenants to acquire upward social mobility but also generate extra social impact from our scarce housing resources i.e. each unit could help more people.
Light Be’s target tenant group was not those living below the poverty line who needed government welfare long, but those earning just between the poverty line and the upper income limit still eligible for public housing. Light Be describes them as temporarily impoverished households who have a strong desire to stand on their feet.
Over the last ten years, this Empowerment Housing model has unlocked the human resource potential in tenants and multiplied the social impacts of properties. The first housing unit has already benefited more than 10 families and the first tenant has already bought a flat of their own.
