Biography

Simon Bee
Managing Director – Global Design, Benoy

Simon Bee has over 30 years’ experience as an architect, urban designer and masterplanner. Holding a global position at Benoy, Simon is a key member of Global Management Board, heads up the Benoy Design Council and continues to deliver designs for Benoy’s international clients.

As a designer, Simon’s international and dynamic portfolio features a range of notable work, including the conceptual masterplan for Yas Island in the UAE, the home of the Yas Marina F1 circuit and harbourfront; The Beach, Dubai, the first open street waterfront village in the city; and MediaCityUK, the development which was instrumental in bringing the BBC to Salford Quays in Manchester.

In Hong Kong, Simon has been heavily involved in the city’s future development and a passionate driver of discussion on the topic. He is the leader behind Benoy’s conceptual designs for the redevelopment of the Central Harbourfront and Site 3 as well as the pedestrianisation initiative for Des Voeux Road Central.

Mark Blackwell
Creative Director, Morphis

Mark is the founder of Morphis and has a passion for creating transformation through innovative and visionary projects across Asia, exploring the intersection of city, society and nature. An international award-winning Chartered Landscape Architect and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, his work explores integrated approaches to achieve memorable destinations as healthy places to live and celebrate life.

Mark is an advisor for Design Trust Hong Kong, creating platforms to support and stimulate design through creative sharing and engaging communities.

Mark’s work has been recognised with a number of accolades across Asia and has also been featured in magazines, books and exhibitions internationally.

Peter Dampier
Marketing and Relationships Director, Asia Pacific and India, BuroHappold Engineering

Peter is a chartered surveyor with over 30 years’ experience across the construction industry, for the last 15 years he has specialised in building teams and revenues in new businesses and markets including India and Asia. He is responsible for the strategic marketing, client development and relationship across the region. Since arriving in Hong Kong in 2014, he has worked on various initiatives to improve and enhance the liveability and walkability of the city. These have included raising the debate and profile of the redevelopment of site 3 with Benoy and ULI, supporting the Harbour loop concept, dragons link bridge, concepts for the redevelopment of the central market and walk DVRC. These initiatives reflect BuroHappold Engineering culture, throughout their history they have looked holistically at cities and there development for the benefit and enjoyment of people. A specific example of note was that Burohappold were a key player on the re-development of the Highline in New York, now the most visited tourist attraction in the city.

Paul Zimmerman
District Councillor, Pokfulam; CEO, Designing Hong Kong

Paul Zimmerman is a co-Founder and CEO of Designing Hong Kong. Paul is also an elected District Councillor representing the Pokfulam constituency, and a board member of Civic Exchange, Professional Commons, Hong Kong Democratic Foundation, and the Patient Care Foundation. His Hong Kong Government advisory functions include the Harbourfront Commission. Paul has a Masters in Social Science (Economics) from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, and a Masters of Arts (Transport Policy and Planning) from The University of Hong Kong.
