Faculty of Business and Economics, HKU

Abstract

Urban design and city management has come to the era where major evolution will happen with the technology application in 5G, AI, big data, IoT and blockchain at an exponential rate.  With the deep integration of these advanced technologies, smart city can be planned and respond to the ever-changing environments, users’ condition and their activities – for the health-and-safety, efficiency, comfort in people’s life.  Data is the centerpiece across these technologies, and blockchain holds the key to unlock and manage these networks of data.

In this online session, Joseph will start with the fundamental of distributed ledger system and discuss why it matters to data ownership management.  We will also look at how zero-knowledge proof concept could unleash the potential of an interoperable smart city where cross-disciplinary and multi-departmental data management could be the future of urban design and management – and the role of different key personnel through this digital transformation.
