Wilco Tijhuis is a part-time Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Engineering Technology, Department of Construction Management & Engineering at the University of Twente in Enschede, The Netherlands ( He graduated at the Eindhoven University of Technology in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, and in 1996 he obtained his PhD from the same university.

Since then, and before starting his PhD-traject, Dr.Tijhuis works for the most time of his professional career in the international industry, especially in project development and construction business. He was and is involved in many projects and strategic themes within private and stock listed companies. Since the last few years he is especially asked on an interim basis, where he is being recognized as professional specialist in international complex deal making, process-management, (re)structuring, recovery and damage control. Parallel to this, he is participating as an entrepreneur in some industrial activities/businesses. He has strong experiences in projects/activities, mainly situated in West- and Central Europe, Middle-East, Africa and Asia, including China.

His research is mainly focusing on international construction industry, where he highlights the business cultural aspects of complex deal-structures, as well as strategic business development themes and management and organization.  Parallel to this he lectures in the field of construction process management, often for an international audience of students and/or professionals. He publishes regularly, has written books and chapters in books, provides keynotes, chaires workshops, publishes in scientific journals, etc. He is also joint coordinator of the CIB Working Commission W112 ‘Culture in Construction’ (, together with Dr. Isabelle Chan from HKU.
