Professional disciplines pertaining to urban development issues such as real estate education usually involve multi-disciplinary subjects such as economics and finance, urban planning and urbanization studies, public policy, law as well as construction technology, etc. This presentation is partly the outcome of a TDG project that develops an online discussion platform for students in such subject areas as surveying, conservation and urban studies based on a visual collaborative learning environment, which transcends the physical constraints of face-to-face meetings among students and staff. The objective of this project is, using real estate education as an example, to understand better how to enhance the learning outcomes of students who are interested in urban development issues on a studio-discussion format. Our findings show that students from various disciplines and institutions enjoyed this collaborative student-based learning environment, provided that the online platform is user-friendly enough to generate discussions.
