For the Towers: Freespace + Hong Kong Forum Winy Maas explores the specific aspects of tower designs to consider the phenomenon of high-rise architecture as an invitation to designers, planners and politicians to envision and realize a more varied Hong Kong cityscape through a focused investigation of Hong Kong’s housing typologies and towers. Upon reviewing previous generations of Hong Kong housing development and analysing the forces that shaped them, he gives an overview on new means with which to strive for a more harmonious balance between population density and quality of life, exploring these new angles to arrive at alternative design schemes.
Winy Maas is co-founder and principal architect of MVRDV, an interdisciplinary award-winning Dutch practice set up by Maas alongside Jacob van Rijs and Nathalie de Vries in 1993. Besides his innovative, experimental, and theoretical work for MVRDV, Maas is Professor of Urbanism and Architecture at the Delft University of Technology.
