Challenges for Young Planners – A UK Perspective

Abstract:

Luke will set out the key challenges he envisages for Young Planners working in the profession based on his experience to date of the planning and development industry in the England and Wales. He will provide an overview of how the Planning System operates in England and Wales, discuss some of the main planning challenges facing the country, provide a case study on the regeneration of the second city of Birmingham, and outline some of the key projects he is currently working on. He would also like to hear from the audience on current issues facing Hong Kong and how these are being addressed.

About the Speaker:

Mr. Luke Coffey MRTPI is the current Royal Town Planning Institute Young Planner of the Year 2017 / 2018. He is a motivated and versatile chartered Town Planner with a commitment to supporting and developing Young Planners, and raising awareness of the positive contribution of the profession. Luke currently works in the Planning Team of Mott MacDonald in their Birmingham Office and has secured approvals for clients across a range of sectors, including sports and recreation, infrastructure, education, health, housing, employment, mixed-use regeneration, and waste to energy schemes.
