Public Spaces in Hong Kong’s Rural Village

Tai Kong Po Village, located in the Northern part of Kam Tin, has the highest number of organic farms in Hong Kong nowadays. While being able to sustain the agricultural production, the village itself also faces multiple challenges including waste management, environmental pollution, provision of public spaces and community facilities, as well as developing strategies of adaptive reuse for abandoned public facilities.

For upgrading the community facilities and sustaining and the agricultural activities, we invite students from BAAS, MArch program, as well as students from other programs in the Faculty of Architecture, to participate in the design and construction of public facilities for the villagers of Ta Kong Po, help revitalizing village community through reconstruction of public spaces.

Selected students will be invited to Tai Kong Po Village for:

  1. Mapping rural public spaces and rural landscape in Tai Kong Po
  2. Design–build a dry toilet in an eco-farm for composting and educational purpose.
  3. Upgrading the mini-bus station through building with recycled materials.
  4. Designing other public facilities in the rural landscape.
