MAKE ROOM: Afterlives of Theses, the third volume of the HKU Architecture Papers series, has won the “50 Books” category of the 2015 50 Books | 50 Covers competition, organized by The Design Observer Group in association with the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
The 50 Books | 50 Covers competition continues a ninety-year tradition by the AIGA that honours innovative designers and publishers who actively challenge the design and production of books. This year’s finalists are selected from over 700 entries from over a dozen countries.
MLA Graduate Gap Chung Wai-Kin has received the “Full-Brain Innovator” (highest award), at the Design NextGen Awards 2016 organised by the Hong Kong Designers Association, for his MLA Thesis project on “Unplanned Urban Greening”
Matthew Pryor from Division of Landscape Architecture and Magic Kwan from Department of Architecture were also awarded the Best Design Educator 2016 in this competition.

Some of last year’s Thesis students (and their tutors) have won awards at the 13th Asian Design Award competition (2015), for their thesis projects. This is the national level award scheme for students of landscape schools in China

The competition entries were undertaken as the first exercise of the MUD studio this semester, supervised by Paul Chu, Laurence Liauw and Casey Wang.
Dr. Stefan Al and Natalia Echeverri coordinated the studio. The competition was organized by the Planning Department of Hong Kong to provide vision for the rock face of the Anderson Road Quarry and the proposed 17-hectare Quarry Park.
On 2 November 2012, ACP Adjunct Professor Dr. Lynne DiStefano was honoured with an Honorary Affiliate Membership by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for her “contributions in promoting the value of architecture in society and for fostering awareness of issues related to the built environment in the AIA Hong Kong Chapter’s region.”
Miss Wong Yik Ching, a Department of Real Estate and Construction student, won the Outstanding Student Award from the Chartered Institute of Building (Hong Kong). The award was presented to her at the CIOB(HK) Annual Dinner on Friday, 19 October 2012.
