Eric Schuldenfrei organised design roulette “Architecture: Between Beauty and Ethics”

Assistant Professor Eric Schuldenfrei from the Department of Architecture and Marisa Yiu have organised a design roulette called “Architecture: Between Beauty and Ethics” in Hong Kong on April 26. The fast passed event will provide a lively discussion, as each person has five minutes to present and then is interviewed for five minutes by one of the other people. Included in the program are architects Hitoshi Abe, Rocco Yim, and David Gianotten (OMA/Hong Kong), developer Donald Choi (Nan Fung Development), social services provider Michael Lai Kam-Cheung (St. James Settlement, Hong Kong), designers Marisa Yiu (ESKYIU/Hong Kong), Eric Schuldenfrei (Hong Kong University), Shideh Shaygan (Hong Kong), and Joo Ryung Kim (South Korea), and brand guru Douglas Young (Goods of Desire, Hong Kong).

The roulette aims to address whether architects, planners, developers, and design professionals have a responsibility to larger societal goals and whether ethics and beauty are at odds with each other.

The event will take place at the new Asia Society Hong Kong Center starting with a reception at 6 pm. For more information go to
