Strategy


The aims have been achieved through the following main strategies:
1. The renovation of some existing buildings for use in employment projects 

Gasometer, originally used for storing fuel natural gas,
was converted into a site for diving training.

2. Landscaping and preservation of existing vegetation and industrial facilities including huge blast furnaces

3. The provision of a variety of leisure activities, and areas for cultural events

4. As part of the whole Emsher Park regeneration programme, the reconstruction and cleaning of the River Emscher where it passes through the park
Reconsruction and cleaning of the River Emscher and a network of clean water is provided for the various gardens

5. An 'industrial history trail' and 'project trail' have been created as a means of exploring and understanding the site

Piazza Metallica - a quiet square surrounded by yards of piping,
tanks and chimneys provides space for vegetation

Farn garden
7. Educational and learning farm

A building was transformed into an educational and learning farm where children experience the agricultural life.
Consumption and production in the farm are kept in equilibrium: integrated agriculture and cattle breeding at the maxims of ecological agriculture.
8. Wind water tower
An old wind turbine was being used to pump water and purify the water stream by enriching its oxygen content.
